September is a magical month. As the transition from summer to fall begins, I find myself appreciating any lingering warm days, knowing that cooler temps are on their way. September brings festivals that celebrate pumpkins and mums, apples and wine (for a few tips regarding those wine festivals you can check out Don’t Be the Drunk Girl). What’s not to love?!

I recently discovered another reason why we should all love this month: September is International Women’s Friendship Month. An entire month dedicated to all of my gal pals – what a terrific idea!! Back in 1999 Delta Kappa Sorority started it all with establishing a National Women’s Friendship Day, which blossomed in 2009 to dedicating the entire month to women’s friendships.
To get this party started, provided below are a few quotes from women with whom I would love to be friends – they have all inspired me.

To all my wonderful gal pals out there – Happy International Women’s Friendship Month and thank you for putting up with all my foolishness. So, where’s the party?
Is there a woman who inspires you? Do you have a favorite quote to share?
Cheers,
Kimba
What fabulous quotes! Just think of a dinner party with all the women mentioned in the comments and your post!! I love anything Eleanor Roosevelt said. Some favs – “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” and “It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.” And Maya Angelou had wonderful quotes on compassion especially to yourself.
I would love to see Eleanor and Tina talking at that dinner party – would’t that be a hoot?!
I didn’t realize that September was International Women’s Friendship Month. That’s quite appropos since I am an international woman living in Switzerland. Glad to meet you on the Midlife Boulevard.
Switzerland!! Wow, great to meet you via Midlife Blvd. We are an international group for sure.
Love the quotes and so happy to know that not only is September a month of changes with weather and seasons it is also a month to celebrate friendship! Thanks for the inspiring post and for all of the wisdom that is offered here!
Thx for stopping by Beth Ann. Hope your week is filled with lots of time spent with gal pals.
I love this post! The quotes are fabulous! I didn’t know about September was International Women’s Friendship Month! Still 8 days to do something special! Great share thank you Kimba 😉
And thank you for your friendship Nathalie – TWOF is one of my favorite FB groups.
How wonderful Kimba and you’ve included some of my favorite women – especial Kate Hepburn! And I know I speak for everyone you follows your writing when I saw how MUCH we all appreciate you!
Aw, Marti, Thank you! Not at all surprised that you are a Kate Hepburn fan – a strong woman just like you.
Here are a couple:
“There are no good girls gone wrong – just bad girls found out.”
― Mae West
“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.”
― Nora Ephron
“In politics, If you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”
― Margaret Thatcher
Thanks for the inspiration!

Love Mae West. Did you know she was a playwright? Her first play was titled “Sex.” Yep, WAY ahead of her time.
Thanks Kim! Another reason to love September 🙂
“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
— Alice Walker, author of “The Color Purple”
Great quote from Alice Walker – thanks for adding!
Love, love Eleanor Roosevelt quotes. Here’s a few of my favorites: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it’s in hot water.” “Do one thing every day that scares you.”
Have you been watching the PBS special – The Roosevelts ? It’s very good, discovered so much detail about Eleanor Roosevelt and her amazing dedication to women, children and the poor.
Happy Friendship day from spring down under. I love this and would love to have met Maya ” Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” Maya Angelou
Hi Suzie and thx for stopping by. Love that we get to celebrate and international event together.
Thanks for sharing all these wonderful quotes.
Thx Janie. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Love this. It took me a long time to learn to be a friend and to have good women friends. I thought they were all competition before that. I love the Janet Reno quote.
I’ve become much more comfortable with women friends as I’ve gotten older. Now, my gal pals are my best pals.
So many amazing quotes to choose from, but here’s one of my favourite that I use as a guide for whether I’m on my own right path:
“…I want first of all – in fact, as an end to these other desires – to be at peace with myself.” Anne Morrow Lindbergh
In midlife I find that being at peace with myself is one of my most cherished ideals, and sought after achievements.
When you join this group of friends, invite me too!
Absolutely – wouldn’t be a party without you!
Thank you for sharing what a great month September is!
“We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better.” J.K. Rowling
WE have the power to imagine better – that is going up on my bulletin board!
Thanks for the comments – perfect. I think our midlife online group provides a wonderful way to celebrate friendships, even though most of us have never met.
I couldn’t agree more Elaine – my online gal pal tribe is such a source of energy and humor for me. So glad you’re part of this tribe!
I love all of these! Thanks for sharing, and happy friendship month to you!
Thx Lois, hope September is a wonderful, fun-filled month for you.
“You can’t be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it. You have to go down the chute.” Tina Fey
“I show up. I listen. I try to laugh.” Anna Quindlen
“Where the fuck are you?” Kim Dalferes, EBWW 2014
OMG – this is why I love you!! 🙂
Sometimes you can’t see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others.

ED is awesome. Thank you for being someone in my life who helps me see myself in the eyes of others – hugs to Roger!
