A Quotable Woman

September 19, 2014 by Kim Dalferes

September is a magical month. As the transition from summer to fall begins, I find myself appreciating any lingering warm days, knowing that cooler temps are on their way. September brings festivals that celebrate pumpkins and mums, apples and wine (for a few tips regarding those wine festivals you can check out Don’t Be the Drunk Girl). What’s not to love?!

I recently discovered another reason why we should all love this month: September is International Women’s Friendship Month. An entire month dedicated to all of my gal pals – what a terrific idea!! Back in 1999 Delta Kappa Sorority started it all with establishing a National Women’s Friendship Day, which blossomed in 2009 to dedicating the entire month to women’s friendships.

To get this party started, provided below are a few quotes from women with whom I would love to be friends – they have all inspired me.

To all my wonderful gal pals out there – Happy International Women’s Friendship Month and thank you for putting up with all my foolishness. So, where’s the party?

Is there a woman who inspires you? Do you have a favorite quote to share?

Cheers,

Kimba

What fabulous quotes! Just think of a dinner party with all the women mentioned in the comments and your post!! I love anything Eleanor Roosevelt said. Some favs – “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” and “It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.” And Maya Angelou had wonderful quotes on compassion especially to yourself.

I would love to see Eleanor and Tina talking at that dinner party – would’t that be a hoot?!

Love, love Eleanor Roosevelt quotes. Here’s a few of my favorites: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it’s in hot water.” “Do one thing every day that scares you.”

Have you been watching the PBS special – The Roosevelts ? It’s very good, discovered so much detail about Eleanor Roosevelt and her amazing dedication to women, children and the poor.

So many amazing quotes to choose from, but here’s one of my favourite that I use as a guide for whether I’m on my own right path:

“…I want first of all – in fact, as an end to these other desires – to be at peace with myself.” Anne Morrow Lindbergh

In midlife I find that being at peace with myself is one of my most cherished ideals, and sought after achievements.

Author photo #2 in colorI hope you enjoy your time here and that you come back often. Wondering what makes me tick? This favorite quote from one of the grand dames of writing, Erma Bombeck, might help: Hook 'em with the lead. Hold 'em with laughter. Exit with a quip they won't forget. Crazy Southern Irish Gal Two-Book Bundle

Humor writer Kimberly “Kimba” Dalferes dishes on a wide variety of topics–from days of her youth spent blissfully on the shores of Florida’s beaches to menopause and empty nests–in her nonfiction collection Crazy Southern Irish Gal Two-Book Bundle. In both titles: I Was In Love With a Short Man Once and Magic Fishing Panties, Dalferes’ crazy Southern Irish gal perspective inspires her illustrations of life’s quirky twists and turns. Together, these books offer descriptive and colorful essays on subjects such as getting a tattoo in midlife, unique uses for kitty litter, handling a rabid bat, public speaking gone wrong, and naked hot-tubbing in Vegas. Dalferes skillfully weaves what at first glance may appear to be dissimilar themes into a tapestry that invokes her life’s motto: live out loud, laugh often, and ‘occasionally’ drink tequila.
