Have You Seen the Signs of Spring?

March 25, 2016 by Kim Dalferes

Spring 2016 has started to arrive and I believe I speak for many of us when I give a big ‘ol “Halleluiah!” shout out. This Florida Girl is not a fan of Old Man Winter here in VA. I become downright morose each February when I begin to feel as though I haven’t been warm since before Halloween. I can see why many of us hanging out in the Middle-Aged Cheap Seats are beginning to eye Florida as a viable retirement option (with yours truly often contemplating during the winter months why I ever left).

Just this week, the signs of spring have emerged everywhere and my little sun garden is beginning to wake from its winter slumber.

This time of year always has me a bit more cognizant of my surroundings. Pretty flowers everywhere, neighbors flying their best spring-themed house flags, birds and squirrels cheerfully bustling about in the yard.

Perhaps it’s not much of a surprise that I also seem to notice all kinds of signs in the spring. I know, I’m a bit kooky in the way I notice signs from the Universe. But here’s the thing, I’ve recently been noticing some DOOZIES that I feel compelled to share with you.

For example, here’s a lovely little notice I spied recently in a women’s bathroom. If there was ever a TMI moment, here’s your winner! Through your proceedings made me laugh out loud.

And while we’re hanging out in the bathroom, here’s another contender for best sign of spring. I love, love, love the sarcasm that exudes from this fine example of someone who is most definitely fed up. I would of course add “bless your heart”, but that’s just me.

Next up, in the category of Seriously dude, your mama raised you better!, the fact that this had to be posted over a public water fountain is just gross.

Finally, I’ll leave you with this oldie, but a goodie. This is not a recent find, but certainly a noteworthy repeat. You will find this road sign in Southern Virginia, and I dream of discovering the back story. Someone, somewhere, in the road management system of VA, thought this was a good idea:

Are you seeing the signs of spring? What’s your favorite spring ritual?

Cheers,

Kimba

What a way to welcome Spring; a big chuckle and a bunch of giggles. Thank you! Today I had a wasp sneaking in my house. To me it was a sign that finally Spring is here!

Whoa, wasps are not to be toyed with. Those lil suckers can be mean! A sign of spring perhaps, but growing up in Florida I was way too familiar with the annual bee sting ritual.

I love spring!! I’m smiling so much more and definitely noticing things more. The toilet sign is pretty funny. Can’t say I’ve noticed those around though.

Well, I would definitely much rather see a daffodil than a blocked toilet!

what a wonderful positive piece. Made me love butterflies even more than I did before! And I loved them a lot!

The butterflies show up in gusto once the black-eyed susans and purple cone flowers arrive. It’s so much fun to watch and enjoy.

Hey cuz. You always cheer me up. Hi from sunny Fairoaks California. Yes all the trees are blooming and flowers are beginning to peak their heads out. Then the rain comes, I’m not complaining we love our rain but now all the pretty blooming trees are gone. Time to garden. My favorite time of year

Kimba, thanks for bringing the smiles once again. Happily received here today.

I’m in SF Bay Area, and the magnolias bloom in frickin’ January here. Then the local asparagus appears in February. It’s been spring for months, yo. Just sayin’….

    Blessed be!

You are SO lucky! My Dad lives near Sacramento, so I know that your spring is definitely ahead of our here on the east coast. Blessing to you too my dear.

Hi Kim, thank you for a midday smile! It’s funny to notice how I feel “Oh Yeh, Baby” when you describe how much you miss the warm weather… I moved to FL 5 years ago from NJ and have never looked back! 🙂 maybe it’s a sign of age… but I like to see it as a sign of wisdom. 🙂 Thank you for the delightful read!

Been peeking thru the mess for crocus. I felt so bad for them cause 1 day was warm, then cold then some warm, then snow. What were they to do. So I dont blame them for holding back. I have to go out & look for them later to tell them it is safe.

      March 27, 2016 at 9:16 am

I hope you found the crocus. They are such pretty little pop-ups.

Here, in upstate New York, we have had an early spring (like so many other parts of the country). My spring ritual is to sacrifice a….no, I mean, talk long walks, breathe in the spring air and take lots and lots of pictures of spring flowers.

    • Kim Dalferes says

      March 27, 2016 at 9:22 am

Ha! The sacrifices of spring – I saw what you did there. You know, I have a snowman doll that I might just need to offer up to the spring gods…

    Kimba,
Thanks filling my day with sunshine and laughter. I really needed a lift today. My favorite sign of spring is the daffodils dancing outside my window in Switzerland.

Daffodils in Switzerland! Sounds like the title of a beautiful painting. I bet you have one heckuva view.

Crazy Southern Irish Gal Two-Book Bundle

Humor writer Kimberly “Kimba” Dalferes dishes on a wide variety of topics–from days of her youth spent blissfully on the shores of Florida’s beaches to menopause and empty nests–in her nonfiction collection Crazy Southern Irish Gal Two-Book Bundle. In both titles: I Was In Love With a Short Man Once and Magic Fishing Panties, Dalferes’ crazy Southern Irish gal perspective inspires her illustrations of life’s quirky twists and turns. Together, these books offer descriptive and colorful essays on subjects such as getting a tattoo in midlife, unique uses for kitty litter, handling a rabid bat, public speaking gone wrong, and naked hot-tubbing in Vegas. Dalferes skillfully weaves what at first glance may appear to be dissimilar themes into a tapestry that invokes her life’s motto: live out loud, laugh often, and ‘occasionally’ drink tequila.
